Uncle Ken says:
The holiday season is stressful because we feel obligated to make each other happy. Food, gifts, gatherings, events may do the job or not depending on how skillful we are.
In early European times rowdy young men would “Wassail” from home to home during the holidays and demand handouts from the rich. In nineteenth century America annual giving to the poor by the rich became giving to the children by everybody. The current habit of everyone giving to everyone was started by merchants during the last hundred years.
None of it is law. There is no penalty in this state for holiday failure.
The stress is self imposed. Relax.
